Conditions
Calling for Neurosurgery
Primarily, conditions calling for Neurosurgery largely
include brain, spinal-cord & nerve disorders. Most normal processes of
Neurosurgery demand that a patient stay for at least a month. Patients
requiring Neurosurgery can either stay at hotels or serviced apartments near
the hospital facility on arrival. Requirement of minimum stay at the hospital
will eventually depend upon individual cases.
Normal
Neurosurgery Procedures
MRI or CT scan & angiography are normally performed
prior to craniotomy. Moreover, the patient should not be eating anything for
eight hours before going into surgery. Steroids are normally prescribed in
order to minimize swelling of the brain. Blood pressure is monitored &
drugs are passed into the system by inserting tubes into blood vessels in arms
of the patient. Patients are routinely kept under observation in special wards
for at least one or two days, after which the surgeon removes the intravenous
drips & drain tubes. Some patients my experience stomach upsets. It is
therefore quite important that you let the doctor know if you have any history
of stomach ulcers. Dosage of steroids will gradually be tapered over several
days. If all goes well as per plan, most patients are likely to recover in few
weeks.
